Pharmacovigilance |
At Dr. Reddy's we view patient care as of utmost importance. This is the core principle of duty of the healthcare sector and we never compromise on patient safety. |
As a consequence of this key concern, the Pharmacovigilance (PV) and Clinical Strategy Group have been increasing both in size and knowledge at Dr. Reddy's. |
As per regulatory requirements, we constantly evaluate safety and have structured processes in place to monitor signals and events across the globe and identify cause-effect relationships. A toll-free number has been set up to facilitate reporting of adverse events. We have also put in place a Drug Safety Assessment and Reporting team, as per the global regulatory requirements. |
Our Medical Representatives, who are responsible for maintaining constant interface with our stakeholders, are also trained to capture adverse events. If an event is noticed, they capture the data through a structured form and report it to our PV department. |
There is also intermittent product evaluation carried out to identify stray events. We swiftly refine packaging and communication if required, irrespective of whether the innovator has taken it into account or not. |
The PV team now intervenes at an early stage, rather than acting as a watchdog, the team is now an essential part of the strategy building team at the product development stage itself. Our reporting also helps build our knowledge-bank so that we can take a more informed and mature decisions concerning our products. |
Future trends in PV |
As a result of implementing these various initiatives, our processes have become more robust and key decisions have become more and more dependant on PV. We now take informed decisions since we know beforehand the merits and demerits of a given drug. This strategic role of the PV team will develop even further in the coming years. |
