Patient Care Initiatives
Cancer care can be financially debilitating. Our assistance programme for cancer patients, Sparsh, addresses this critical need by increasing access and affordability of medicines. Through Sparsh, we ensure that the underprivileged patients identified by Oncologists are treated free of cost.
Sparsh was launched in June 2006 alongside our anti-tumour drug, Glioz (Temozolomide). Sparsh partnered with doctors, across the country, to provide Glioz free to 60 economically needy patients.
The success of Sparsh in the pilot phase with Glioz encouraged us to extend the programme to include our entire range of oncology products in 2007. Our new drug, RedituxTM (Rituximab), the world's first biosimilar monoclonal antibody, used in the treatment of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, is also part of the product range on offer.
Since its inception in 2006 to 31st March, 2010, Sparsh has benefited 4,250 patients, providing 3,500 treatment cycles. Reditux alone has been made available to more than 1,000 patients. Support has been extended to the tune of INR 240 million @ PTS Value in FY 2009-10.

Health Camps
India is one of world's largest manufacturers of generic medicines. At the same time, a large section of India's populace is living without access to basic medicines. Illnesses are often aggravated due to the delay in diagnosis and preliminary treatment. An exponentially higher number of health disorders can be prevented just by disseminating information.
To achieve the three core goals of spreading awareness, early detection and providing access to cure, we regularly conduct free health camps which include a medical check-up, eye care and blood donation. At these camps, we not only offer treatment and medicines free of cost, but also create health and hygiene awareness, especially among children and the rural population.
Some of the free health camps conducted during the reporting period are mentioned below
A free medical check-up and health awareness camp was organised at a school in Dasomajra, where over 250 villagers and school children were examined and provided free medicines.
We successfully conducted an 'Eye Mission Programme' for school children in collaboration with the Shankar Eye Hospital, Andhra Pradesh, and the Shankar Foundation, Visakhapatnam. During this 15-day programme, more than 2,000 children underwent a basic eye examination and eye testing. Of these, 2% were found to be suffering from eye disorders. Neccessory eye operations were carried out on 42 children.
The PSAI team celebrated Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, by organising a general health camp at Kothapet village on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Herein, free medicines were distributed to the needy. On 25th October, 2009 an eye camp was conducted in the same vicinity, wherein free spectacles and complimentary surgical treatments were offered.
Over 100 employees of FTO 1 donated blood at a blood donation camp organised at the unit premises on 23rd October, 2009 by the Lions Club of Jubilee Hills society led by Mrs. Samrajyam Reddy, wife of Dr. Anji Reddy, Founder Chairman, Dr. Reddy's. The camp was followed by a tree plantation drive.
Another blood donation camp, held on 28th October, 2009 at CTO VI, also attracted enthusiastic participation from over 100 employees, who donated blood to A.S. Raja voluntary blood bank (Visakhapatnam) and the Indian Red Cross Society (Vizianagaram).
