Education
Over the years, DRF has instituted various education programmes that cater to demographically diverse groups of society. During the reporting period, most of the initiatives gained impetus and broadened their footprint by inducting more students and enhancing their reach through the establishment of additional centres. Given below is a brief update on each on-going programme.

YUVA YOUTH
LEARNING CENTRES
Community-based adolescent youth learning centres, established in various urban slum areas around Hyderabad, encourage dropouts and working children to return to mainstream education. These centres help eligible students obtain formal academic certification, and provide them career counseling and job-related training.
Six new Yuva Youth Learning Centres
were established in FY 2009-10 with
four teachers in each centre.
TRANSIT EDUCATION
CENTRES
A transit school comprises an early childhood education centre (crèche),
a bridge course camp and a regular primary school. In FY 2009-10,
17 non-residential bridge centres,
with a total strength of 38 teachers, provided education to 575 students.
Another 360 students were
taught by 20 teachers at
four residential bridge centres.

PUDAMI NEIGHBOURHOOD
SCHOOLS
Pudami Schools address the rising demand for English education from marginalised/lower income communities as they integrate with the mainstream economy in new emerging careers.
Four schools have been set up in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts where 70 teachers impart education to a combined strength of over 1,400 children drawn from all sections of the society.
PUDAMI ENGLISH
PRIMARIES
To make quality English-medium education accessible to urban children from lower income groups and to serve as feeders for the Pudami Neighbourhood Schools, DRF has set up 29 Pudami English Primaries (nursery to class five) in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts in Andhra Pradesh.
They serve a combined strength of
4,700 students (2,491 pre-primary and 2,209 primary) through 238 teachers.

EDUCATION
RESOURCE CENTRE
ERC is a resource centre set up to
provide academic support to all the Pudami Schools. ERC develops curricular content, material for teachers' education and mechanisms for academic support
to schools.
To facilitate children's shift to English medium, ERC has prepared an English transition course that helps children to catch up with the rest of the class.
KALLAM ANJI REDDY VIDYALAYA
& VOCATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE
The Kallam Anji Reddy Vidyalaya at Hyderabad has 45 teachers providing education to about 1,200 students in both English and Telugu.
Kallam Anji Reddy Vocational Junior College at Hyderabad offers Intermediate level two-year vocational courses in five disciplines - automobile technology, computer graphics and animation, computer science and engineering, hotel operations and multi-purpose health care management. Current strength of this college is 450 students and 20 teachers.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE
& EDUCATION CENTRE
Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) Centre is targeted at children under five years belonging to migrants living on construction sites in urban Hyderabad, India.
In FY 2009-10, 10 ECCE centres funded by World Bank and 20 ECCE centres supported by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a Government of India initiative, helped 1,340 children with the assistance of 15 teachers and 10 assistant teachers.
BRIDGE SCHOOL AT
JUVENILE HOME FOR GIRLS
Inaugurated in January 2010,
at Nimboliadda, Hyderabad, the school campus houses close to 84 girls. The girls fall under three categories and are housed according to their needs.
Hence the juvenile delinquents are
placed in a special home, under-trials
in an observation home and children who
need care and protection are housed in
a children's home. This bridge school
has been set up with support of
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
