Recycling Wastewater
Increased environmental sensitivity and the nationwide pressure on water in India have spurred our drive to reduce raw water consumption and enhance wastewater recycling. During 2009-10, 28% of our requirement was met through recycled water.
Adding more volume to our wastewater recycling initiative, a new wastewater recycling facility was commissioned at FTO - 3 at an investment of INR 200 million.
We have also set up five Zero Liquid Discharge Plants (ZLDP) since 2002 where effluent is treated and the treated water is productively used as cooling tower make-up, boiler feed water and/or for gardening. Another ZLDP is currently being commissioned at FTO-3. Moreover, this year, the effluent treatment plant at CTO - 1 was upgraded by adding an RO based polishing plant for non-process effluents.

Incorporating waste
water recycling and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
in our plants are among the key features of our
SHE programme.
