To monitor and advise on Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programmes, safety committees have been instituted at each manufacturing site. These committees, with 50% workforce representation, meet once in a month to discuss various issues associated with OHS.
50% workforce representation, meet once in a month to discuss various issues associated with OHS.
Furthermore, in the reporting year, many other monitoring tools were implemented to reinforce OHS like:
Occupational health surveillance was conducted at all CTO units.
Industrial hygiene qualitative risk assessment was carried out at all manufacturing facilities using a proprietary tool based on the concepts of ‘hazard and control banding'.
‘Batch Chemical Safety' cards comprising key safety data were released for 34 products in
our CTOs.
SHE support was also extended to third party manufacturing facilities and 18 audits and four safety risk assessments were conducted during the year.
Health Risk Assessment
We conducted a comprehensive health risk assessment by developing a tool which is in line with the global concept of Hazard and Control banding. Between July – October 2009, unit-wise health risk assessments were carried out across the CTOs and FTOs by a professional industrial hygienist.
The assessment was two-tiered
Collection of chemical consumption information from SAP and categorising it into three Hazard categories based on the inherent chemical risk.
Walkthrough surveys across the plant to check the employee exposure to dust.
The outcome of the study highlighted focus on engineering control and respiratory
protective equipment.
